At the beginning of the 14th century the Lords of Vlašim began construction of Vlašim Castle, which was situated on a promontory above the River Blanice. The structure was basically completed by the Jenštejns in the same century. Only some parts in the northern wing and the tower survive from the castle, which was originally Gothic. In the 15th and 16th centuries, when Vlašim was held by the Trčka Family of Lípa and the Vostrovec Family of Kralovice, the castle was gradually remodelled into a prestigious, noble residence in the Renaissance style. The château gained its present form in the 19th century under its last aristocratic owners, the Auersperg Princes, who remodelled it in the Classicist style. Since 1945 the château has belonged to the Municipality of Vlašim. The Museum of the Podblanicko District (Muzeum Podblanicka) and a vocational school are based here now.
